Mia + Caitlin’s Real Love Story

“Put the right people in charge. So often throughout the process, people would ask me if I needed help or what I needed to do next. My vendors were really incredible and kept me on track, they each met with us and really took it from there.”

Caitlin and Mia, where does your love story begin?

We first met 6 years ago at a small New Years Eve Party where our Matron of Honor introduced us! We talked to only each other all night. We still celebrate every New Years as the day we met. As for falling in love, I said this in my vows, but I fell in love little by little and then all at once. It went from “Oh, I love that Caitlin does this,” to loving everything that she does, and loving all of her.

When and how did the proposal happen?

I flew to Savannah Georgia to surprise Mia at an annual rugby tournament and proposed surrounded by our closest friends.

What were the three most important aspects of your wedding?

Spending time with my guests was most important. Aspects that were important in the planning process: the food, feel, and entertainment. For Caitlin, it was the guests, the ceremony and the photos!

How did you make your wedding unique to your love story and relationship?

We brought in our friends and families in different ways. The venue, The Barrel Factory, is home to Pressure Drop Brewing which is owned by one of our bridesmaids. Amy, our photographer, is good friends with another bridesmaid. Our Matron of Honor, the friend that introduced us, made all of our bouquets. My MOH designed our invitations and programs. Caitlin’s aunt married us. My in-laws hand made photobooth props of our dog! The fur coat I wore for our outdoor photos was borrowed from a bridesmaids grandmother, who is dear to me. The list of sentimental family involvement is endless. There were so many things that I got to point to and tell a story about, either how it was significant to us or how someone significant helped us with it. There were so many people that we love and love us that helped in these behind-the-scene ways that ultimately made our wedding so special and unique to our love and lives together. Everything was done with so much love.
Caitlin admits: while terrified to do so, writing our own vows.

What was your favorite part of the big day?

Hearing each others’ vows and the speeches. But also all of the little moments in between.

Did you use Indie Weddings for your planning purposes? Tell us how that experience was!

M: We went to the Buffalo Indie Wedding Bridal Show at Hotel Henry in October of 2017. The event was so well done and fun. I ultimately met Amy, of Anomaly Photography there and reached out to her right away after seeing her work. Bliss Bridal had a booth there too and that is where I found my dress. The event was a great starting point for me, and helped us to visualize what we did, or didn’t, want.

Any advice for our engaged couples? Must-haves, lessons’ learned, if-I-could-do-it-all-again…?

While the details matter they are not what matters most. Remember to enjoy your day and pick which details are worth sweating over. Absolutely go for a couple‚Äôs massage in the days leading up to the big day! Put the right people in charge. So often throughout the process, people would ask me if I needed help or what I needed to do next. My vendors were really incredible and kept me on track, they each met with us and really took it from there. Ask for help if you need it, set boundaries if you don’t. Make time to spend with just each other, without discussing wedding planning. I would second Caitlin’s recommendation for the massage – we ended up getting two in the week before our wedding!!
